So, what exactly is THC X and is it worth your time?
Today, especially with the rise in hemp-derived products, it’s not uncommon to see a host of different types of THC in products.
Delta-9 THC is the “classic” form of THC found abundantly in the cannabis plant, though there are also plenty of products on the market made with delta-9 THC from hemp plants. This is generally the main point of reference for other types of THC.
There are also other variations, like delta-8 and delta-10 THC. These naturally appear in extremely low yields in plants, meaning they are often created synthetically, or by chemically converting delta-9 THC or CBD. These cannabinoids tend to have similar, less intense effects compared to delta-9 THC.
Many commercially available products containing THC derivatives like delta-8 and delta-10 are produced through synthetic or semi-synthetic means, as the original plant simply isn’t concentrated heavily enough in these minor cannabinoids on its own. So while these cannabinoids are naturally occurring, intervention is generally required when it comes to creating products with enough of these cannabinoids to promote effects.
There is a lot of buzz around the internet surrounding THC X, but there doesn’t seem to be a totally straightforward answer as to what this cannabinoid actually is.
Many originally understood THC X as a sort of super-powered THC formulation, often understood to have even more prominent effects than delta-9 THC and other derivatives. On the other hand, some claim it’s about 50% as potent as delta-9 THC. None of these claims have yet to be backed by research.
The truth is that THC X isn’t really its own cannabinoid.
Rather, the original blend of THC X is truly the result of mixing three delta-8 esters: delta-8 acetoacetate, delta-8 butyrate, and delta-8 isovalerate. The term THC X is often used to tout this blend as something new and exciting, but as mentioned, there is no evidence showing that this blend acts faster or harder than its natural counterparts.
While THC X may be its own unique blend, it’s likely similar to delta-8 THC and its effects. THC X is psychoactive, meaning that it does alter cognition and lead to the feeling of being “high” like other varieties of THC
